My clients still go out on weekends. Getting in shape doesn't mean giving up your social life; it means having a plan for it. Nothing cures the next day, and your body clears alcohol at its own pace no matter what you do. But what you eat, drink and do around a night out decides whether you lose one morning or your whole weekend.
The whole night on one page
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Before | High protein, medium carb, low fat meal |
| During | Water between every drink, and pace yourself |
| When you get home | Electrolytes, magnesium glycinate + L-theanine, a high carb / medium protein / medium fat meal, and a short walk |
| Morning after | Water with electrolytes, a walk, a medium carb / medium protein / low-medium fat breakfast, caffeine + L-theanine |
Eat a real meal before you go
High protein, medium carb, low fat. Going out on an empty stomach is the biggest mistake people make. Food in your stomach slows down how fast alcohol hits you. Protein keeps you full so you're not starving at 1am, carbs give you energy for the night, and keeping fat low leaves room for the calories you'll drink later.
Slow down
Water between every drink. Alcohol makes you lose water, and most of how bad you feel the next day comes from being dehydrated. A glass of water between drinks keeps you hydrated and naturally slows you down.
Pace yourself. How much you drink matters more than anything else on this page. The slower you go, the better tomorrow goes.
Set up tomorrow before you sleep
Electrolytes. You've been losing water and minerals all night. Electrolytes in a glass of water before bed puts some of that back so you don't wake up wrecked.
Magnesium glycinate + L-theanine. Alcohol messes with your sleep. If these are already part of your stack, I take them before bed to help me wind down and get better quality sleep after a night out.
A high carb, medium protein, medium fat meal. Your energy is low after a night out, and carbs refuel you. Eating something real at home also beats the 2am drive-thru order you'll regret.
A short walk. Even 5–10 minutes around the block helps you digest before you lie down.
Get moving and refuel
Water with electrolytes. Start the morning by rehydrating before anything else.
Go for a walk. It won't make your liver work faster, but getting your body moving and getting outside makes you feel human again way faster than staying in bed all day.
A medium carb, medium protein, low-medium fat breakfast. Real food to steady your energy. Skip the greasy "cure" breakfast; it usually makes you feel heavier, not better.
Caffeine + L-theanine. Caffeine gets your energy back, and L-theanine takes the jitters out of it so you don't crash.
One night doesn't ruin anything
One night out won't undo months of work. What ruins progress is losing the whole next day: skipping meals, skipping the gym and eating whatever's in reach. Follow the plan, get back to your normal routine the next day, and your progress stays on track.
Drink legally and responsibly, and never drink and drive. Talk to your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you take medication or have a health condition. Don't mix sleep aids or medication with alcohol.
